Design Essentials - Squares

Leonid

I really like to see some of your work. Can you post some?

Let's say some folks actually PREFER square shapes over circular
shapes.

Preference is not the issue. The issue is the principals of the
design. The science of Ergonomics studies the different shapes,
colors, sounds, and their influences on the humans. The effect of
square on human psyche is very well understood.

We all understand that YOU do not, but most of us don't feel the
need to project some sort of judgement from that position.

My impression was that our discourse was tete a tete, so “we all
understand” is an interesting choice of words. Principal of “safety
in numbers” is considered Sophistry in a debate. Even if it was true,
which I do not believe, the fact that more people believe something
to
be true, does not make it true.

One last point:

You mentioned in one of your posts that you actually prefer square
shape with cut off corners. That is exactly the consequence of the
way square influences human perception.

Square draws attention to the center, and since you obviously have
artistic intuition, the corners appear to you as something foreign so
you want to cut if off. So you actually do not like square, and
therefore you want to modify it to suit your preferences.

Square with corners cut off is not the same as square as it is
defined in Geometry.

Nuances are of paramount importance in the design.

I think I have a problem, I'll call it time management. Maybe my
problem is just that I don't like to spend time on the computer, I
just don't know. If anyone has noticed or of course cares, most of
my replies are short and sweet.

Well, it usually starts as short and sweet, but when complex issues
are raised…, not everything can be fitted into 1 of 2 lines.

I grant you the point that some of my posts are long, but let me
assure you that it was the shortest version I could come up at that
moment.

Given a choice between letting the falsehood stand, or a long post,
I will chose the second.

As far as time management goes, I consider it as mental workout.
Besides, I am a fast typist, so it does not take too long.

Your point is well taken.
