Definition of Sterling Silver

HIya all!! Ok… Can someone please geive me the LEGAL
definition of Sterling Silver. As far as I know it is 92.5%
silver and 7.5% copper. alloys made with nickle, zinc or
anything else can only be marked .925. Please help. Oh yes…
I am in Canada but definition for US and UK would be nice too.

The term “sterling” comes from around 1320 when the "Easterlings"
were commissioned to make coins for some big wig. The word was
later simply shortened to “Sterling”.
