CVD lab grown 3ct diamond says hello to the world.

Just wondering, how long does it take to produce a diamond that
large? Is there enough of a profit margin to make it worth trying to
sell it as a natural gem?

So you’re asking whether there’s profit in fraud?
So you're asking whether there's profit in fraud? :-)
I guess I am. Not that I would ever do that of course. I have quit
jobs due to moral objections to what the owners wanted me to do to
make a profit.
It just seems that the likelihood of getting away with selling a
diamond this big is pretty low when you know that the chances are
very good it will be sent for testing and certification. Small
diamonds, 1ct and under, I could see selling those as real because
there is less chance of those getting certified.
Just having a man-made diamond this large must be getting up there
in cost to produce. Is it safe to say that a natural diamond this
large will run in the $25,000 to $32,000 range (USd)? So the time,
materials and labor, to make this 3.09 ct diamond has to be
significantly less than that amount.
I know only the very basics of making diamonds. Enough to ask (I
hope)intelligent questions about the process, but I have no idea
what it costs to make one.

I can think of few incidents where fraud was done for unselfish
reasons.
Really interesting article. Thanks for the share, made my morning
train ride infinitely more entertaining
