Colores enamels from Rio

I am very excited, just got my set of Colores enamels from Rio in,
and have not found much about using them in the archives. Would
love to hear from anyone who has used them with tips, suggestions,
etc. I am looking forward to playing with them - I hope to
incorporate some of my mixed media fiber art and handmade paper with
my jewelry using them.

Thanks!

Hi Beth! I’m so pleased you’re excited about your enamels. I imagine
the Orchid crew has plenty of education to offer you. But I also
want to remind you (and everyone) that Rio provides a technical
support group you can call if you want more detailed information
about products you have purchased. At the Orchid dinner there were a
few folks who didn’t realize they could call and get technical
support from highly skilled jewelers and manufacturing process
experts, so I thought it would be helpful (and timely) to put this
reminder out here. Thanks, and good luck!

PS – It was SO great to spend quality time with so many of you at
this year’s Tucson events. What a great community! I only hope that
over time I’ll get a chance to meet everyone.

Hello Beth, : )

I afraid I can’t tell you that much about using the “Colores EPOXY
Resin” from Rio Grande, I work with Vitreous Glass Enamel. However I
think the problem in trying to find in the Orchid
Archives on the color system you have chosen from Rio may come from
a possible misunderstanding of the product name or possibly the
material’s composition.

e.g. Colores enamels from Rio

“Colores Enamels” wouldn’t be the most useful Archives search words
as “Colores” are not “Enamels.”

When I read your post on “Colores enamels” from Rio, I had a look in
their catalog to check for enamels since they hadn’t listed any
enamels in the past catalog, and I saw that they still don’t. The
“Colores” system you have selected from Rio is an “Epoxy Resin”
system. They are not in any way “Enamels” they are “Epoxy Resins”
and are VERY different from “Enamels” which are “Vitreous High Fire
Glass.”

I think that you will probably find a bit more on epoxy
resins and similar products in the Orchid Archives if you search
under “Colores Epoxy Resin,” or search words like “Resin,” “Epoxy,”
or “Epoxy Resin” Also possibly some other types of color systems
like “Durenamel,” "Cororit,"or “Ceramit” But If you search using the
word “Enamels” you are most likely to find on “Vitreous
Glass Enamels,” a very different material & process.

One Archived Orchid post mentions “Colores Epoxy Resin,” Link:

I found 189 Orchid Archive posts on “Epoxy Resin” Maybe there will
be some helpful in some of them.

I found 8 additional Orchid Archive posts searching specifically
“Colores Epoxy Resin”

I am looking forward to playing with them - I hope to incorporate
some of my mixed media fiber art and handmade paper with my
jewelry using them.

I hope that you have great luck, and success, adding color to your
work with the “Colores Epoxy Resin” system you have chosen and that
you find some helpful info. on “epoxy resins” in the Orchid Archives
as well as from new posts to your request for on the
product.

Very Best Regards
