Cleaning showcase glass

Hi Dough,

the big advantage of newspaper is that it is not fuzzy like paper
towels. By the way, it is the typical way we clean all our windows
in Germany, not to save money but to avoid the fuzz and the
stripes…

Do any of you clean the glass on your showcases with windex and
old newspaper? In several different countries in Asia I have
watched people cleaning showcases and/or store windows with old
newspapers.

Doug,

I don’t know what it is about newsprint, but it has almost magical
powers. Not only is it possibly the best medium for cleaning
windows, it also works great for the inner surface of the glass
viewing areas of wood-burning stoves. If you have such a stove, just
try dipping dry newspaper into ash from the firebox and see how
quickly it cleans. It is also a great deodorizer. Stuff some in a
smelly refrigerator or freezer, your kids shoes, or any other
confined or semi-confined space and see how quickly it adsorbs odors.

I am crazy about the "Miracle Cloth". I first found it in
Solutions Magazine. It is really amazing. This is all I use at
shows now. You

Where do you get “miracle cloth”?

Hi all. The “Miracle cloths” are available at
http://www.solutionscatalog.com. I have used them for several years
to clean my showcases, and I love them. I usually use a liquid
cleaner with them, but they work pretty well without. They are also
great for cleaning the mung from the inside of your windshield.

The Miracle Cloth is found in Solutions catalog. Here is a link to
the page it’s on. http://www.solutionscatalog.com

The only other place I’ve ever seen them was of all places in an
Amish community in Arthur, Illinois.

Enjoy
God Bless you

Our humble shop is in a flea market where there is a LOT of dust and
keeping the counters looking nice is a challenge, so I’ve been
following this thread with interest.

My husband and I were at Wal-Mart the other day and in our travels
through the store, I discovered a microfiber cloth mitt. It was less
than $2 US and it works GREAT. I sprayed a little glass cleaner on
the first counter top and started wiping. There was enough cleaner on
the cloth after that to do the other 3 counter tops AND the fronts.
The counters were sparkling!! By the end of the day, the mitt had
dried and I just shook out the dust/dirt.

BTW - going back to a previous thread about how to compete with the
big guys, the chains and Wal-Mart - even though our shop is in a flea
market, we carry quality gold, silver and gems. We don’t have the
overhead, so we can compete with the big stores on prices, plus we
replace watch batteries (and as someone said, do a little education
at the same time) and we do repairs “while you wait” - it’s our niche
and it works very well for us. So well, in fact, that we are probably
going to HAVE to go to brick-and-mortar by next spring. Customers are
coming back and sending their friends and family to us, too - word of
mouth advertising is worth more than any ad we could pay for!
