Changing hoses on meco torch

i have a meco torch and the connection to the oxygen is leaking. i’m trying to remove the hoses but i can’t seem to get it off. am i missing something? i connected the hoses on in early spring and cannot for the life of me remember how. sorry if this is a no brainer. i used a smith little torch for years and i’m still kind of new to the meco

Usually on oxy-acetylene torches, the oxygen threads on one way and the acetylene threads on the reverse way. So it’s not always “righty tighty lefty loosey”.

I went down and looked at my Meco and there isn’t much to be confused by. There are two sets of threading flats, one for each gas. Remember that theO2 is right hand threaded and the gas is left hand threaded. You may have gotten them very tight. Figure out some way to hold the body of the torch securely so that you can get a better “purchase” on the flats with a wrench. Take tension off the hose so that it isn’t pulling the fitting too far to one side. You may need a second set of hands with this or a vise to hold the torch body. Line the vise with something that will keep it from damaging the torch body. Don’t use the torch until you fix the leak. Good luck…Rob

Speaking of hoses, Tinman used to sell a very light type T hose set that I bought from him years ago. He has since died and his website is gone. Does anyone know where this very light weight hose set can be purchased as I need a spare. Thanks…Rob

thank you. i can get it off the torch and the tanks. i can’t get the hose off the threaded part that goes on the torch. does that make sense?

i know otto frei has the lightweight hoses now!

The hose is swaged to the fitting. You likely can’t get it off…Rob

Are there a metal/plastic collar on the hose?

I have taken a long hoses to my local welding shop and they have cut them in half and added what size (A or B) fitting I want to the cut end. If you can find your leak, this might be an option…Rob

I finally found the ultra lite type T hose that I have at a place in England. I am trying to get more information and will post it if I do. It is the same hose that I bought for my Meco from TM Tec., actually the same picture…Rob
