enhanced the fields of architecture, art, and design. Nominees must
be living alumni who have graduated a minimum of 20 years ago (class
of 1991 or earlier) and are not currently employed by the Academy.
The 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award will be conferred at commencement
on Friday, May 6.

To make a nomination, submissions with the following information
should be emailed to the Alumni Circle Nominations Coordinator,
Benjamin Teague (Ceramics 2006) no later than January 15, 2011:

The nominator’s contact (name, address, telephone, and
email)

The nominee’s contact to the best of your knowledge
(name, address, telephone, email, year of graduation and department
of study)

A letter of nomination (up to 300 words). This letter should address
the reasons why you feel the nominee is a remarkable alumnus of the
Academy. Please include evidence of achievement and recognition, for
example: instances of peer-review, invitational exhibitions, one-
person or group shows, industry or peer awards, academic
distinctions, media recognition (film, television, radio),
publications (articles, monographs, reviews, criticism), etc.

We look forward to hearing from you! And thank you in advance for
participating in this important award!

Would love to see a metalsmith win this!

Wow. In nearly 20 years, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of
this.

Do we even know who’s won previously?

I was just perusing the CAA alumni group on Linkedin, and near as I
can tell, there are a grand total of two Metals alums on there. (Me,
and a guy from 2000 or so.)

I’d suggest a first step is to start trying to (A) drag the other
metals alums online somewhere so we can find us all, and then (B)
set up some sort of metals alum group somewhere, to make
communication easier.

We might get some support from CAA. The current metals AIR (Eris)
seems to take professional development seriously, if the quarterly
"Who’s doing what" newsletters are any guide. It’s in their best
interest to help us connect as well.

So, how many Cranbrook survivors do we actually have here on Orchid?
The ones I know about are

Me,
Peter Rowe,
Beth Wicker (?Printmaking?)

Anybody else?

Regards,
Brian Meek.

PS–>Back to the original topic: OK, so who do we want to tag for this?

Brian, yep - I’m printmaking not metals from Cranbrook! Not sure of
anyone else who is “out there”…

I’m just on their e-mail list now, so wanted to spread the word…
no idea what they’ve done through the years as I just re-connected
myself in the past year…

Well I can’t exactly say I’m an aiumni, however I did take a forging
class at Cranbrook back in 1977.
