Richard, don’t think you’ll get more detail but you will get more strength if investment cracking or chipping is an issue. 1% by weight to the the investment. Downside is stronger investment aka harder to get castings out of the flask.
Has anyone every tried a drop or two of liquid dish soap? Plasterers and drywallers do to get those pin point porosity from forming. I’ve never dared to try it on a good cast!
it was suggested that you add 1% borax to the investment to get more detail??!
Can someone explain how, why and when to and when not to add borax and how much?
This doesn’t speak to detail or of exact amounts, but might be helpful:
“A tiny bit of casting flux (I use 50% borax and 50% boric acid) added to your investment makes for a nice clean oxide free casting. I said a tiny bit. Too much messes up the investment.”
