Boley Watchmaker's Lathe

Does anyone have a Boley watchmaker’s lathe and what do you use it for?..Rob

I don’t have a Boley lathe, but we have a vintage Unimat lathe at my job and I’ve got a Taig lathe in my home studio. They’re both primarily used for wax carving (mainly band style rings).

I have found one locally in very nice shape, I just am not sure what I would do with it. I had a Taig and could not turn steel with it…Rob

I was gifted a Boley and have never used since I have a beloved Sherline, lathe with milling attachment. Though I’ve mainly used for wax turning, it has turned teflon, brass, aluminum and sterling easily. I would say it has the capability to cut steel, given the proper tool angle, feed and speed. There is a comprehensive book written specifically about the Sherline that is fairly easy to find.
