earrings with ear funk all over them. Those with pierced ears (and
other parts of the body) can attest to this. PLEASE do not do this,
1) its unprofessional, and 2) its just nasty.

Not only that, in California it’s illegal…

dont let people *try on* earrings either, lord knows if they have
some sort of flesh eating bacteria residing in their lobes just
waiting to be passed onto someone else.

OK, now, let’s get real here. How many times has anyone ever heard a
verifyable instance of someone having diseased earlobes?

Holding earrings up in not good enough. Especially in the earrings
are costly. This is what alcohol wipes are for.

Dear Friends,

Thank you all so much for taking time to share your wonderful
insights and advice, be sure it will not go to waste. Besides myself,
there are other Orchids out there who will bloom from your great
advice as well.

My best to you all,
Marta

Thank you Noel.

I agree. Should someone have an earlobe infection, the pain &
swelling alone would discourage them from poking posts into that
tender flesh. Alcohol wipes are very handy. To be safe, I wipe off
the earring BEFORE allowing someone to try them on, then after as
well. I also keep some of the alcohol-based disinfecting gel on hand.
Note I said “disinfecting”, not anti-bacterial. There is a difference
and frankly, anti-bacterial products should not be available without
a prescription! But that’s a whole 'nother thread.

Sorry, but in some states it is illegal to allow the customers to
try on pierced earrings. I know that the feel and weight distribution
will be different for different customers, and some merchants will
allow it, and clean the earrings afterwards, but still an illegal
practice.

Melissa,

It would be a shame to loose an earring sale because of a state law
even though it might be justifiable. Often a client will not buy a
pair of earrings unless they can try them on. They want to know how
they look and feel. If that is the case then why not try the
following:

If the earrings in question are the type that uses wires or
euro-clips where you can remove the wire, why not let the client try
them on with a cheap pair of sterling kidney wires and then just give
them the wires after as a gift even if they don’t buy the earrings.

Of course this method will not work with post style earrings but
maybe someone else can address that problem.

Heck of an idea, not that expensive and a good solution to the
problem.
