Bench redesign

I am redesigning my work space inspired by what I saw at New Approach. Here are some pics.

I built all this with some scrap steel I had laying around and a piece of 1” birch plywood

And we get to see your homemade benchmate in action! Combined with your magnetic tumbler made out of an electric treadmill and now this (plus who knows what else you have in your shop) you definitely have a talent for jewelry tool making!

It’s inspiring!

Thanks! I’ve got the tools, the materials and the delusion. Sometimes it works!

You have been busy. I like making my own tools. Sometimes they work. Good job…Rob

There is a metal plate with a nut welded onto it that is set into the bottom of a 1 inch thick plywood piece. The bolt that runs through the tower connects to that nut and pulls the tower into the plywood base.

This is AWESOME Brennan!

Modular, customizable, and post-apocalyptic. Right up my ally!

If you’re ever in the New Orleans area, give me a shout out if you’re interested in touring our shop!

I would LOVE that. I’ll keep you in mind!

Hi…so you clamp the plywood to your bench?

julie

No need. It’s big enough that I just put some neoprene between the worktop (an adjustable desk so I can change ergonomics for me or my wife) and the plywood. It doesn’t budge.

So Clever. You should reach out to Potter and see if he would make loads of them. I would buy it!

Just to be clear, this is an actual product they sell at New Approach and it’s definitely worth purchasing it there! I just have a habit of cobbling together tools because I have the insanity to do it.

In the same way, I built a bench mate when I was first trying to become a better silversmith. A little bit silly but still works great!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make that clear!

Another update. A new bur holder and pliers organizer. It’s on a reclaimed monitor stand.
