Hi Jay: The trip is planned for Oct 11th until Oct 20th. No, I have
not visited Beijing. I am looking forward to the trip and hope that
it is not over booked. Wish us luck. Pat and Dennie

Nigel: Thankyou for the web site you suggested. It was amazing. It
is in my favorites sites now. Appreciate the info. Pat and Dennie

Hi Pat,

You can get a visit guide magazine free at the hotel that you are
staying, it is free. Or you can look up www. bjta.gov.cn or
wwwbeijingtour.net.cn, check it out first.

You can visit the pearl shopping centre or also call Red Bridge or
hong xiao plaza. Basement is fish market, ground floor is leather bag
and third floor pearl market. President Clinton and Secretary
Allbright visited this place.

For jade market, try old secondhand market or Pan Jia Yuan, alot of
chinese painting, jade (B & B+C-jade), rough and carving of natural
nephrite from Sinkiang, dyed red coral, agate (treated), ancient
carriage wheels, antique, anything and everything for sales. Quite an
interesting place, but beware fake, dyed and imitations are around.
Testing and training ground for gemologists and gem cutters.

Have fun!

Pat and Dennie. I have never been to mainland China but lived and
traveled in the Far East for many years, nearly 20 years in Taiwan,
Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, PI, etc, etc. I would suggest that you be
very careful when buying Jade in China. You really should have
someone you trust introduce you to a supplier and even then check out
their merchandise carefully. I love the Chinese people but know full
well when they do business - all’s fair in love, war and business.

On the other hand, if you are going to be in Hong Kong, you might
look into getting entrance to the jade market. The best stuff is
siphoned off to HK and jobbed out from there. It is not easy to get
in and, again, you must find an introducer. Should you make it
however, your eyes will bug out at what you see. I also had some very
good success in acquiring some nice jade while in both Taiwan and
Korea. Excellent quality of both nephrite and jadeite in various
colors. Even then, it took me several years to find “an in”.

I cannot comment on the pearl market there. Good luck. Cheers from
Don at The Charles Belle Studio where simple elegance is fine jewelry!

Dear Don: Thank you for the very needed advice. I have a person that
just came to mind that I will ask for We will take your
advise to heart and listen carefully. I am sure that when we are
allowed to see these sites, it will be amazing. There is so much
beauty in the art work of jade and I am sure it will leave a lasting
impression on me. Time to hit the books. Thanks again. Pat and Dennie

Be aware that much jade is being shipped to China from Canada and the
US.

Hello all,

I’ve been to America a few years ago to visit a dear friend. In the
same period,I did some driving around there (about 7000 Km)and found
out that you still can find nice beautifull jade in the area’s of
Montana and Wyoming (right in the snake river).I’ve seen extremely
nice black jade with some kind of golden vane running trough the
entired stone in a shop with solely jade stones or better rocks.I
wonder why people are not interrested in this jade over there ??

Other then that,New Sealand has lots of gold area’s but also bunches
of all kind of jade in Hokitika (Northern part of the island). They
hat some awsome carvings made out of jade.I’m sorry that I didn’t buy
that jade octopus, had not enough small change in my pocket to come up
with (34,000 US dollars !!!).

I do not know enough about jade, but I think that America could offer
real nice jade if somebody out there just put his hands on the
sources and made something out of it.But maybe it’s easyer sad then
done, however I think the right stuff is there ready to go .

Pedro: I want to affirm what you said about jade in the U.S. We do
have some high quality jade right here. We have a company in Willits,
Northern California, mining some incredible jade. I believe they are
mining in California, but of course they are very secretive regarding
location. I have been to their shop and the jade is so incredible it
would make a grown person cry. I worked with the woman who creates the
jewelry on a commissioned piece, she drilled the jade for me. She
gave me a piece of the jade rough as a gift and it sits on my bench so
I can admire it everyday. The were also written up in a Jade
Publication, can’t remember which one, but the article showed them
using a helicopter to get the large jade out of the area. They also
brought in some experts tp check out the mine and they concluded that
they have something that no one else does in the world. This jade
will definitely put a dent in the pocket book. If you want to drool
oversomething. Check out their web site. www.bluemoonjade.com
