Hello all, I’m searching for an introductory course that will
teach me how to create jewellery with gold, silver and gems, in
the Los Angeles/Santa Monica area. Does anybody have any
referrals? I want to do it as hobby, so there’s no need for
complex stuff… at least for now. Thanks for all in advance,

This is in response to the inquiry about basic jewelery classes in
Los Angeles. There is a class at Santa Monica College which is
taught by Carol Arutian that covers cold connections, fabrication
and casting at a beginning level. There is no studio time however
and you have to stick to her projects. There is also a class at
Loyola Marymount every semester and summer as well that is more
flexible. Barnsdall in Hollywood is supposed to have a great
studio with time available to work outside class.
Email me if you have any questions

Eni, Both Tina Chambers at Santa Monica College, and Anthony
Chavez at Venice High School Adult Education offer excellent
jewelry courses in your/our area. Tell both or either of them that
I say hi. Good luck!
Lisa,(I’ve started an excercise class, given on my 70’ long
redwood deck 3x a week, and my muscles…Hah! what muscles?..are
killing me)Topanga,CA
GIA also has a jewelry course. One of my classmates at Highline
in Seattle had alsao graduated from GIA. I don’t know if they’ve
moved to Irvine or if they are still in Santa Monica.

GIA has move to Carlsbad, California and has been there for almost
a year now.

Dear Eni Oken.
I have heard good things about the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts,
in San Francisco. While it is not L.A., S.F. is a pretty good place
to hang out for one of the school’s 3-day introuctory classes in
jewelry making with precious materials. Visit RevereAcademy.com and
or send your snail address. Alan

Hi Alan, after visiting S.F. several times, I don’t think I’d want
it to be L.A! or even similar. Mendocino would be another
good place, or even Carmel (of a decade or so ago) I’ve heard many
good comments regarding your classes. Maybe someday!
