Does anyone know of a supplier of barrel polishing machines in
the UK? I need something about 5 litre capacity for continuous
use. I have checked Walsh’s and Exchange Findings catalogues.
Their machines are too small.
Incidentally, if anyone is still looking for Water of Ayr stones
in the UK. Noeone seems to stock them anymore. Does anyone know
of a US stockist?

Oh HELL! I thought you Brits were rolling in Scotch stones. I
found ONE here in an old jewelry supply place and like what it
does. They come from Scotland, pretty sure, have to look at the
label again. I wonder if there’s some equivalent stone out there,
it seems to me I could just buy a sharpening stone of the softer
variety and just use my lapidary saw to cut some sticks, pain in
the butt but maybe worth a try. wonder if it’d ruin my saw? Dave

Hi Richard, by hearsay I know that goldsmiths used slate to
remove firescale from silver. It was sold until some years ago
by a jewellers supplier here in Germany, but it’s the kind with
which roofs are covered. You can easily file it into any shape
needed. Just try it, Markus

I will try to find the address but there is a fellow in the UK
who sells them his business is called JK WILD he is a supplier to
clockmakers. As close as I can tell this stone is still quite
avaible thru clock material suppliers in the UK.
