Barbara Umbel Jewelry Design
Melbourne Beach, FL. USA

We create one of a kind jewelry out of natural sea shells, gemstones and pearls.

The work is forged and fabricated out of 14 karat gold and sterling silver. Forging is the process of sculpting round wires with a hammer and anvil into distinctive forms. Once the wires are sculpted the fabrication of the piece begins- the parts are soldered together with a torch to build the settings for the stones and shells. Often a design is not planned, but seems to "grow" as it is being built. This lends a spontaneous, fluid quality to many of their designs.

Their work echoes the movements of these and the creatures that inhabit it. The designs themselves are all derived from the color and the
geometry of the shells.
