[Asheville, NC] Stolen jewelry

Hi everyone. I had a rather rough start to the week when my studio
landlady informed me someone had broken into the gallery part where
my studio is, and broke the glass on three cases. They took around
20 pieces of my work (possibly a few cast pieces, but I mostly kept
track of my handmade pieces), as well as another jeweler’s
work(production line work, not unique designs). I know it’s a long
shot, but the more who are aware of the missing work, the better the
chances someone might see it somewhere. So, in case you see it
online or elsewhere, for sale, please take a look at

all the pieces are sterling silver, but are unmarked. Several pieces
contain turquoise. Other stones include a large blue peruvian opal,
nuumite, death valley plume agate.

I’ve passed this on to the Jewelry Ring and Jewel
Collect lists Jeanne in case they see it (particularly the ones in
your area). So sorry this has happened. Hopefully this will turn up
very soon and the perps will be taken care of.

Dinah

Quite possibly you have already thought of this but check Craigslist
REGULARLY for your work. The idiot who stole it will try and sell it
somewhere… Also, watch some of the popular online venues: Etsy,
Artfire, Ebay etc.

I am very sorry this happened to you. Pretty disgusting.

Laney

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I hope you are able to recover it
and the people responsible are caught. I’ll be thinking of you.

Your work is beautiful, by the way.

So sorry to hear of your loss. My business partner and I were robbed
on our way back from a show. They took everything. 90% of the merch
was 14kt gold and Diamonds and semi precious stones. We were on our
way back from The Cincinnati show. This was a life time of work, gone
in less than 5 minutes. Heartbreaking. They took theshow cases and
all the carrying cases. I will keep my eyes open for you.

heidi, might i ask what the details of the situation were??, dave

the first place I would contact is area precious metals buyers. Have
photos and copy them, leaving them with the dealers. Also a police
report which I’m sure you have already filed is in order
(particularly to recover monetary losses on your homeowners or if you
have one, rider on the studio and contents). Thieves will in all
probability not try to sell the pieces intact but make them
unidentifiable by destroying the work and selling it for metals
value…Asheville is not the kind of place one would expect this…I
would alert buyers (of metals as far as Robbinsville, Murphy even N.
Georgia around Helen as people sometimes sell to shops there
particularly during leaf season when products are expected to move
fast) and check out the upcoming John C. Campbell Folkschool’s Fall
Festival as there are many jewelry makers selling things there…maybe
any of them has been approached… it is a difficult thing to deal
with having one’s work stolen, and I hope that you act quickly to
attempt to get it back or learn what happened to the pieces if
already liquidated. I’m sorry for your loss… rer

The really stupid thing, if they stole them for the metals, is I do
filigree work! There is hardly any weight to the metals in the
pieces! They’d be lucky to get a few ounces of silver out of what
they stole. The stones weigh more than the metal in some cases. I
know people are going metals mad lately, but that is either
desperation or stupidity!

Otherwise, thanks to everyone for their advice and sympathies. It’s
frustrating, that’s for sure. I have run around to some of the
metals/pawn places and left a flyer with pictures, as well as a url
for color images. I just can’t get around to every place at once with
two kids to play taxi mom to and other things to do. I will probably
fax it out to some of the other shops. Am also watching ebay and
craigslist etc…and doing google image searches.
