Asbestos

The extent, severity, and ongoing nature of the health problems
associated with exposure to asbestos and similar materials is
questioned from time on Orchid and similar forums.

This article from the Melbourne Herald Sun April 9th 2003 may help
put the problems in some sort of perspective. My home state
Victoria, a southern mainland state of Australia, has experiences
with asbestos that are doubtless representative of similar
communities all over the world.

You don’t need to deal with asbestos in your studio. We are using
non-asbestos transite from Cutter Northern Refractories in Woburn.
Great stuff! I am outfitting all our counters and splash boards
with this material. They are listed in the Ganoksin Archives.

I just want to caution people to remember the “quack test”. (If it
looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and hangs around with other
ducks, it might as well be a duck.") If a material acts like
asbestos, it may have the same dangers. It’s about particle size and
shape. Please be careful!
