I never could understand why I had to have a statement … an
explanation … a reason for being for my art. I never had a reason
for doing what I did. I just created. I usually didn’t know where it
came from or why I did it. When I had my master’s show I had to
write a statement of purpose and was so intimidated. I thought, “I
will never make it as an artist. I don’t express myself well by
writing about my art. I felt it spoke to each individual in its own
way.” So … I had my husband analyze and write the first rough
draft of my statement. Then after reading it I had an "Ah-ha…"
experience. “So that’s what it means…” Hahaha. For me, having a
