A friend in England tells me that he received a booklet from Cookson
that includes an announcement saying Cookson is now making Argentium
Silver available worldwide! If you have been reading about Argentium
Silver, but worried by some of the questions and concerns, you may
wish to take a workshop. (I am told that after I taught a workshop
in Calgary, at Alberta College of Art and Design, the participants
shared what they learned, and many the grad students switched to
using Argentium Silver!) I will be teaching two workshops in
Birmingham, England this summer that will include learning about
working with Argentium Silver. The class that is the last week of
July will also be about corrugating and microfolding Argentium
Silver. The first week of August, I’ll be teaching about the
hydraulic press, and including working with Argentium Silver.
Recently, I have been teaching this way—combining a technique or
tool with Argentium Silver—and it has been working very well. Soon,
I’ll be posting images from the workshop I recently taught about fold
forming Argentium Silver at Metalwerx on my blog. Prior to that, I
taught forging with Argentium Silver, which is already on my blog.
Both of the workshops in Birmingham have spaces available. I am
looking forward to teaching at the The Birmingham City University’s
School of Jewellery again. The city has been transforming itself, and
I thoroughly enjoyed walking to and from the school each day along
the canal. The school itself is amazing, with over a dozen jewelry
studios, a glass atrium, a gallery, and a cafeteria. Cookson is
across the street, and other suppliers are nearby. I want to re-visit
the old jewelry factory that has been turned into a fascinating
museum.
Since I will have a weekend between the two workshops, as well as
some time before the first workshop, I am hoping to visit more of
England, as well. If any Orchidians are in the Birmingham area,
perhaps we could get together?! It is always fun to meet new friends.
