Anyone recognize this torch

LOL! Totally. So much for solder not filling gaps! I’m kind of into it! Especially given the end results. A while back I created a Youtube video on torturing Argentium silver. A piece of textured scrap, work hardened, then broken. Ragged broken ends, nothing tight fitting and I soldered it back together. Not pretty, but it survived the abuse. https://youtu.be/ndRAaEIqsMY?si=7t6hYJeDYOXCFA-2

That’s wild. I haven’t really explored the limits of argentium like that. Thanks for sharing.

It’s amazing stuff. No firescale, no tarnishing (when it does tarnish it looks like 10k gold), if the joints are half decent you can fuse it, doesn’t need repetitive fluxing if it doesn’t solder on the first go, the only thing you can’t do with it, is move it when it is still “orange” hot. If you do, it crumbles. But you can push the pieces back in place and fuse it back together again. I’ve never worked with sterling silver. Sterling silver and I would not get along.

Just checking in. Have you got the torch yet? I was thinking of getting one as well. I am interested in your review.

@Brennan-AG @Gerald_Livings1 Well! Alibaba is quite the market place to navigate around. I made the mistake of not spending some time researching all the listings and only after the vendor failed to deliver the torch by Jan 15 (they hadn’t even shipped it yet by that point) and was not responding to my question about when they would ship it. Long story short, I didn’t receive it, but I did file for a refund through Alibaba, which got refunded to me in 2 days, plus $10US for my troubles. I think Alibaba holds the funds in escrow or something until it actually gets delivered. Which is a pretty good system. I did a bit more digging and research after the fact and discovered that the seller has a 47% rating for delivery! So, I ordered a new torch from a different seller that has a 100% rating for deliveries and the torch is supposed to arrive around March 5. The torch has a wider and higher foot pedal so I think it might deliver more air maybe? Anyways, please stay tuned I will be posting when it arrives. Thanks for remembering about this post. Oh, I also bought a 2m x 2m fire blanket for “Just in Case”. LOL!

The adventure continues! Thank you for the update

@Brennan-AG I just checked the website and it looks like it shipped today. So unless it’s coming by boat, it should be here sooner than March 5. Fingers crossed.

Hoping for a swift :speedboat: !!

For what I paid for shipping it better be a fast boat! LOL.

Hi Sonja - loving this saga! Just thought I’d mention that Arif G is located in Indonesia which is probably why he has no need for a “melting hut”.
Have fun and good luck with the new torch!
Cheers Willie.

@Willie That makes sense! I’ve never seen him bundled up in a sweater. I just got notified that my torch is being delivered this coming Friday barring any warehouse forklift accidents that I’ve experienced several times now with UPS. Talk about adventures in online ordering. I order groceries from Costco and it looks like UPS had a forklift accident in the warehouse and rather than sort through everything they took a shovel and shovelled up completely random stuff off the floor and back into boxes. Someone, somewhere is enjoying my kilo of Kalamata Olives and I get a box of nuts and bolts that look like they belong on a ship, or massive rubber motor mounts, 10 Kriesel pressure washer nozzles and a bit of food. The weather is looking half decent this coming week in North Western BC, enough to take it outside for the initial test run just to make sure I don’t set myself or the house on fire. I’m really stoked by others’ shared enthusiasm and curiosity for this archaic piece of jewelry equipment. Stay tuned!

This is awesome to see because my gas guy and I had the question of of I could have natural gas run to use in jewelry and he and I had no idea.

@KimberlyJ67083 I think you might be thinking of Rob’s recent post. He got his plumber to run a gas line to his bench. My new torch is really low tech, no gas lines.

Hey everyone! My torch was on a fast boat from China and arrived a month early. Now does anyone know with some certainty how this works? Ie. how much fuel to use, etc. I’m thinking off the top of my head not to overfill the tank beyond maybe 1/4 full to allow room for the air to pressurize the vessel. It’s too cold to take it outside to do the initial test run, but I think the torch is a torch is a torch and as long as I can be certain the flame is extinguished at the end of the torch when I am finished, I should be golden. Very exciting. Here’s a video of the unboxing. And I figured out the Chinese instructions of the gas vessel. In and Out and Fuel, pretty straight forward. https://youtu.be/SIUjC5lB1ls?si=UZ6lSBUXbYvCtu0s

Also I just revisted the original video on Youtube and he has a dual line going into his torch handle, except there’s only one air line going into the gas vessel. So is he getting double the fuel/air mix to his torch? No wonder he can melt gold. My torch plans might be over before they even get started.

Thanks so much for the update, Sonja. You are right about the dual line going to the torch; Rob noticed this upthread quite some time ago, and like him, I am a little confused about this part. See his post from Dec. 14th, 2024. Anyway, good luck, and I am as anxious as you to know the results of your torch adventure.
Just an afterthought… Have you tried emailing AnifG? If you have already, I missed this in the threads. On his YouTube channel, it is listed as agofficial24@gmaii.com. But this must be a typo; clearly it must be a Gmail address. (mailto:agofficial24@gmail.com).

Just a heads up.
You seem both have been struck by the typing virus
I guess it is supposed to be @gmail.com

Yes, you are right. Thanks for the correction. I will edit the post.

@jyoteekat I have not tried emailing him, I posted a question in the comments as that’s usually how I have people contact me through Youtube. (My social media skills are pretty abysmal, :frowning:) and so I never thought to look for an email address to contact him directly. I did notice that he had replied to one of the commenters that the torch set up was obtained through Aliexpress, but I couldn’t find it there. Anyhow, I will shoot him an email and pester him with my ignorance..

I believe you were referring to Rob’s post about the Semme torches? I did look at their site and then got punted over to eBay when I clicked on the photo of the torch. The Semme torch and the one I have are identical. In order to achieve his set up I would have to switch out the fuel vessel (or have my welder friend modify it for me and add an additional inlet) and then find a dual line torch handle. But first I’m going to actually try it as is, to see if any modifications are even necessary before I go full McGyver. I’m loving the collaboration with this thing and I’m not kidding when I say how relaxing and soothing the sound of the air bellows are while pumping. I run the risk of falling asleep.
