Anti-War Medal Exhibition

Hello,

I have been fortunate to have had a piece included in the “ANTI-WAR
MEDALS” Exhibition initiated by Velvet da Vinci Gallery in San
Francisco in 2003. “ANTI-WAR MEDALS -Artists Respond to the War”
was originally mounted at that San Francisco gallery in 2003. As the
prospectus stated, “Artists have a long history of reflecting on the
events surrounding them. We feel that this is one of those times.”
Over 135 artists created one medal each relating to the theme. So
far, that venue has been the only stateside gallery to show this
collection.

The response by both artists and the public was overwhelmingly
positive, and ,currently, Electrum Gallery in London is showing the
exhibition, with medals by additional artists included.

After the show at Electrum, it will then travel to Norway this
summer to be shown at Festspillene i Nord-Norge in Harstad, Norway
from 19-26 June 2004. They are just finishing arrangements for other
venues in Norway as well and are also working to have the exhibition
go to Barcelona and Rome next year.

Metalsmith Magazine will be reviewing the exhibition in an upcoming
issue (kudos to the Editorial Advisory folks, the editor and to
SNAG) and Timeout London is also featuring the show. If you want to
see all the Anti-war Metals, go to www.velvetdavinci.com where they
are shown in all their glory.

Hi, Linda,

I have a couple of pieces in the Anti-War Medal show as well, but you
have much more detailed about the plans than I had yet
heard. That show really has legs! I think it is a really fascinating
show, with a lot of passion in it. Isn’t it cool to have everybody’s
pieces going on tour? I wish I could join them. Anyway, thanks for
the extra info.
