Another scam?

I just got a call that made me very suspicious. A lady called from
the 305 area code in Florida and told me that she had been referred
to my business as someone that might be interested, as a jeweler, in
a private diamond sale. Now I have gotten these calls before from
people in town, but I amin Wisconsin.

So was it a scam? I think so. I turned her down immediately before I
got the particulars but I am reasonably confidant that I am correct.

Someone called me many months ago on the same topic. re: scam. I
went along knowing full well that this was a scam in the making. She
said was at my store, (I don’t even have one).

I played along with them so nicely & even thanked them for their
visit, she offered me her c. c. for payment. I took down the numbers
& asked which bank she is affiliated with. She gave that to me also,
I then called that bank about that stolen c. c. the rest is
history!..:>) - BTW, keep your c. c.'s & other valuable plastic cards
of I. D. in ametal envelope-.

My “Cross-Border, Nexus card” is also in a metal envelope. This
avoids any 3rd-party scanning of my wallet ID while walking down a
city street…

Gerry!

Hi Gerry, what do you mean by scanning the c. c by walking on the
street? Monica

RFID-type readers. not sure how else to explain it other than
telling you to Google it - it is similar to what is depicted on the
show “Personof Interest” - you see them "capture peoples phone and
ID info from their CCs all the time on the show

It is a real issue and actually happens.

Be aware of the CC “skimmer” devices placed on the top of actual
ATMs and similar type keypad-scanning devices. They are getting
thinner and thinner so they are not as detectable as they used to
be.

Best protection is having fraud protection on your accounts so you
are not liable should this happen to you. We cannot avoid technology
and carrying cash/using checks is actually now a greater risk than
using CCs and conducting electronic transactions. People can steal
paper and snail mail easier than pulling encrypted electronic info
out of the air. Most people do not know this. AARP just published
and article about this last month.

Not worrying about this stuff and focusing on jewelry design,
