An odd mark to identify?

Hi there

Can anybody think what this is?

Inside a platinum ring constructed within the last approx 5 years -
a series of 4 marks. These are ‘SM’ 'AWJ ‘J’ ‘O’. Each of these are
in a separate sharp cornered rectangular punch stamped about 2mm
apart and they are all in an ariel type font and in capitals.

I have checked with the UK assay offices here and it doesn’t sound
like they are UK sponsor marks.

Any help would be very gratefully received.

Best wishes
Harriet (UK)

Hello Harriet,

I cannot help you much but in tellling that these marks are not
french. Although it sounds odd for such a recent piece, it reminds me
of marks left by “Mont de piete”, the places were one can borrow some
money and leave a valuable item as a guaranty.
