Amber

Hi Noel,

Speaking of amber.

I just got back from the Dominican Republic.

I was up in the mountains where I purchased quite a lot of amber
from the miners of the amber region. The colors I got are all
natural and I have lots of red, lots of blue, some green and a great
deal of yellow and amber amber. I also have pieces that are two
color, red and green, blue and green. I have one piece that is
blue and green and weighs a pound and a half.

Every piece I have is untreated. Most of it’s still uncut since I’ve
only been back a week. As I understand it, the bangles are as a
result of heat.

Hi again, what I wrote earlier about the source of “sequins” in
amber is correct. Barbara, what you say about these pieces testing
as "real " amber is also correct as far as it goes, but you are
incorrect in suggesting that the sequins are natural air bubbles
formed with the amber. they are NOT. They are laboratory produced
in real amber. So, one could say they are quite visibly enhanced
amber. Like intensely dyed pearls, once you know what you’re
looking at you will always recognize it. Is it real amber? are they
real. pearls…yes and no. off to a career fair for little girls at a
local grammar school and then off to a big fundraising auction at the
Long Beach Art Museum tonight. If you’re in the area, I’ll see you
there …some great buys in the silent auction on some very good
work. Fabulous little set of landscapes made of dryer lint! maybe
I’ll be able to get them! regards from the california coast! marianne
