Aluminum boxes

Greetings,

I am looking for some aluminum boxes in which to store stones and
other supplies. I bought three from a classmate of mine, as she was
selling them for a profit I could not find out where she obtained
them. The outer box is all aluminum, with small round boxes with see
though glass tops. One box has 12 round containers, and the other has
20 small round boxes inside. The labels say “watchmakers cases” and
they were made in India. Does anyone know where to find them? I’d like
dozen of them, preferably in the smaller size (20 per case).

Hi Gail, Try www.leevalley.com They have lots of neat stuff, including
watchmakers cases in three sizes. Karen

Gail,

These probably came from from Harbor Freight - I’ve seen 'em there.
Problem is they don’t always have 'em.

Hi there!

If you have a Lee Valley tool store in your area, they sell them.
Also you see them on Ebay a lot under jewelrey supplies.

Gerry

Gail - Those boxes sound very much like ones which are being sold by
Harbor Freight tools. You can check them out at the Harbor Freight
website.

Hi Gail, This sounds like an item that might be available at 46th st.
Jewelry Supplies (I think that is the name) They have many odds and
ends in supplies from India and they are located on 46th St. in
Manhattan. They have good prices on supplies. Diane

Hi Gail, Forgot to include that you should look in the woodworking
section under storage containers. The Lee Valley catalogues are great
and a good source of gifts - especially for woodworkers and gardeners.
There is a store near me and it is a great way to kill an afternoon!

Gail:

Those boxes are available at American Science and Surplus. Try their
catalog. I don’t have their number with me, but they do have a store
in Chicago–that’s where I got the boxes you are talking about. My
understanding is that they have other locations, also.

Hope this helps.

JOSEPH P. STACHURA CO., INC. 435 Quaker Highway Rt 146A Uxbridge,
MA 01569 1-508-278-6525 has the small ones - $3 ea 30/dz - I have
dozens of these - most of the covers are somewhat loose - I find that
squeezing the bottoms very slightly and making them out of round will
make the fit more secure

Gail-- you can get these boxes for gems at two places that I know of.
I have bought them from American Science and Surplus, a very fun
store (in Chicago) and catalog well worth checking out for anyone who
loves tools, gadgets, and wierd who-knows-whats: http://sciplus.com/
The exact same thing is available through Harbor Freight Tools, which
is, I think, a little cheaper (either way, $5 or less per box):
harborfreight.com (I think). Good luck! --Noel

The watchmaker’s cases you describe are available from Harbor
Freight. Occasionally they are on sale and quite inexpensive. Try
this web page:

Current price is US$3.99 for one box with 20 containers. Judy in

Hi Gail,

You need a company called The Caprock. They carry everything in that
vein. I think they’re in Ohio, but don’t have their information
readily available. You might be able to get a line on them through
business yellow pages on the Web. I saw on them in some
papers I was going through yesterday… I’ll see if I can locate it
and forward more specific

Gail,

The best source for the aluminum watchmaker’s boxes as well as a
number of other nifty containers, sanding supplies, rare earth
magnets, and useful tools is Lee Valley, a Canadian company that sells
all over North America. You can view their online catalog at
www.LeeValley.com and request their huge catalog. They have also done
terrific reprints of old tool and technique books for wood and metal
work. I have all my stones in those cases – they have one set of 20
little ones in an aluminum box for US$2.25 [yes! I wonder what your
classmate charged you…] and the best buy is a set of 54 which
consists of 3 different sizes – for $9.95. They also have wonderful
long plastic tubes with screw tops [$1.95/doz.] that are perfect for
sawblades.

Hope this helps,

I found boxes like that from Martha Stewarts Catalog actually… I
think the pack of 12 is like $14.00… i ordered it on line. Thanks
