I have a client who saw a wax model in light gold wax and wants the
piece in a natural alternative material. Does anyone have any
suggestions on what and where I could have pieces made in something
other than silver or gold?

Depends on the size of the object and what they had in mind, I have
done lost wax casting in glass and made wooden cufflinks so all you
have to do is seek out someone with the skills to match the material
you have in mind. there are plenty of wood turners about and quite a
few carvers. Have a chat with someone at your next local craft fair,
shell and bone are easily worked by wood or stone carvers and a good
few glass artists ahve the wear with all to cope with most types of
glassworking even if it isnt their bread and butter.

It might be to much work, but you could have the pieces carved out of
mammoth ivory by CAD after scanning your original model with a 3D
scanner. Mammoth ivory is outside the ban on elephant ivory as it is
from the Pleistocene era. It has a fine grained texture and carves
well.
