Agate Burnisher

Where would I find an Agate Burnisher?

Doug

Doug, I got mine from Art Clay World (specializing in metal clay
supplies), online at www.artclayworld.com. It’s worked very well
doing keum-boo (the gold foil doesn’t stick to agate as it can to a
metal burnisher). Their address and phone number aRe: 4535

Hi Doug,

If the worst comes to the worst I could make you an agate burnisher.

A large variety of shapes in agate burnishers may be found at Sepp
Leaf in New York City. They cater primarily to the gold leaf/framing
industry, but they have a huge selection of high quality tools.

doug asked where he could find an agate burnisher.

jerry’s artarama carries 7 of them. www.jerrysartarama.com

believe I paid $15 for mine. Betty Belmonte

I bought mine from the art store Daniel Smith in Seattle many years
ago. I suppose that they still have them.

In addition to other sources already mentioned, Contenti has them
too. www.contenti.com, I think…

Here are two resources that carry different agate burnishers and the
prices are pretty good. Good Luck. www.aswexpress.com (art supply
wherehouse) and www.gilding-supplies.com Allison Vezeau

Hi Douglas, Allcraft in New York City carries them in a straight and
curved shape. Their web site is http://www.allcraft.peachhost.com/

How does an agate burnisher differ from a steel burnisher?

That reminds me of a non-jewelry question: Why do librarians use a
bone stick to “burnish” creases in paper?

The “bone folder” tool is really old. It dates back to the middle
ages at least. No one is sure if the book binders got it from the
leather workers or vice versa. Modern ones are often made of dense
nylon.

Basically, for either use, it is the right degree of hardness and
takes the right polish to be able to crease leather or paper without
cutting it.
