[2000] Tucson Gem Show

Hi James, Glad you are well. I’m demoing at AGTA, do I need to
preregister? If so please fax me a form. 403-283-9053. Thanks and
best wishes for your New Year and new position! Charles

For those of you who haven’t made reservations yet, don’t panic.
I was lazy and put off calling until today. No problem getting a
room at the EconoLodge on N Stone (about a 5 min drive to the
AGTA show). OK, it’s not the fanciest place in town, but it’s
clean and cheap!

You can pre-register with AGTA by calling 1-800-879-6259 if you
have a fax, or 1-800-972-1162 if you are fax-less (like me).
AGTA is mailing badges out to help shorten the lines at the
show.

Last year, some of us got together for dinner while in Tucson.
Dave Arens was kind enough to organize the dinner. Dave, we
should do it again this year!

I don't have reservations anywhere and know it is too late
to get them.

Don’t be too sure—Tucson has built scads of hotel/motel rooms
in the last few years, and last year there were still rooms
available during the show itself. Might require a bit of
calling, but you can still probably get a room.

I’d like to thank everyone who responded to my questions - I
learned a lot, and changed my plans just a bit as a result. I’m
going to get there earlier, in the first week of February, and I
hope that I can run into some fellow Orchid members while I’m
there.

You’ll recognize me by the fact that I have an almost obsessive
interest in knots - trust me, you’ll be able to tell by looking.

Dear Charles Lewton-Brain, I believe that you have mistaken me
for someone else, judging by the e-mail you sent. I cannot help
you with registration at the AGTA, But maybe you can help me.
I’m interested in making contacts in Thailand for stonecutting
(cabachones) and manufacturing sterling jewelry. Can you steer
me in the right direction? I will also be cruising the Tucson
Show from the 10th to the 13th. A couple of years ago you came
to Santa Fe to teach and I missed it due to a craftshow. I’m
just getting used to this computer and it is helping to draw me
out of isolation! I’ve been tumbling beach pebbles and
semi-precious stone blade forms for five years now. Making a
living from free materials has set me on the quest for “Geezer
Power”, revealing Truth and Beauty through rock tumbling, one of
the most potent of the “Geezer Arts.” Please e-mail me back and
I will send you a sample of my work! Sincerely, James Cannon.
