Fellow Orchidians, After 30 years of ordering the same 18k yellow
tubing from Hoover and Strong, I was informed that they decided to
switch their tubing alloy to “royal yellow,” a high silver alloy.
While this alloy works fine for granulation, it is too soft for
mechanical connections (hinges, bezels, etc.). Its green hue also
does not match the deep yellow color of my line.
Does anyone know of a good supplier for standard 18k yellow tubing?
I know that Myron Toback carries some sizes, but it’s hard to
calculate sizes from their catalog ( OD is in mm, wall thickness in
decimal inches). Sure, I can make tubing, and I could weld the seam
closed with the laser, try to straighten the tube enough to mill the
excess seam material off on the lathe, etc., but what a pain… I
normally stock around 15 sizes of tubing in various diameters and
wall sizes. Plus platinum tubing.
Thanks,
Doug Zaruba
