I am stumped. I am introducing a line of jewelry to be offered in
18K & Sterling Silver. It is for specialty boutiques, and designer
jewelry shops. However, the findings i have found in gold are only
14K. Is it okay to use a 14K earwire, or lobster claw on a 18K
piece? My chains will be 18K, to go with the 18K pendants i am doing
but the closures and earring hoops is what i am having trouble
finding in 18k.
Lisa, try Frei and Borel for a good selection of 18K findings and
resist the 14K. I think if you mix the karats it will confuse
customers and any confusion is a reason not to buy. Sam, Tucson

G’day Lisa; Can’t tell you about the rules in USA or the fasteners,
but for earring hoops you can make your own using appropriate wire in
something around 15 seconds each. Have a look at the ftp site in
Orchid under ‘earwire jig,’ It’s been there a long time and any
jeweller could make one in about half an hour or less…
